SZABUL saves 297 million off three budgets


KARACHI: Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law (SZABUL) has saved hefty Rs 297million since the start of its first academic session in 2015. It’s founding Vice Chancellor and former judge of SHC, Justice Qazi Khalid Ali, has formed a high-level Committee to suggest appropriate mode of investment of the savings in government securities.

This was announced in the monthly meeting of SZABUL officers held on Monday. The University, as on March 30, 2019, has Rs 297million savings in its kitty. Its Finance and Planning Committee and the Syndicate, in their respective meetings last week, had asked the Vice Chancellor to form a Committee to suggest the names of the government securities for investment of the money.

The committee, headed by Justice Mehmood Ahmed Khan of Sindh High Court, includes the Secretary Universities and Boards Sindh or his nominee, Secretary Finance Sindh or his nominee, Director General Finance of the Higher Education Commission Sindh or his nominee, Former judge Supreme Court and the Dean Faculty of Law Justice Zia Pervez and the Director Finance, The Resident Auditor and the Registrar of SZABUL.

The committee will submit its report within one month. Under the direction of the vice chancellor, the Dean Law and Chairman Law department fixed April 15 for the meeting of the Board of Advance Studies and Research (BASR) for evaluation of the Ph.D. and LLM thesis/dissertations. The officers meeting decided to extend the date for submitting applications for vacant Faculty posts and to announce the date for interviews of sports officer and director physical training of the university.

The Project Director of the under construction main campus informed the meeting that some portions of the buildings would be ready for use by July this year. The university plans to start BA, LLB (five years) LLM and Ph.D. admission in June this year. The VC informed the meeting that soon the university would receive two buses and asked the Registrar to form transport committee for operations of these vehicles.
