Whole world is facing lack of nursing staff including United Kingdom and Pakistan – Mike Nithavrianakis

Karachi: H.E British Deputy High Commissioner Mike Nithavrianakis has said that Whole world is facing lack of nursing staff including United Kingdom and Pakistan. UK wants to resolve this issue through mutual cooperation. In the future there is a need for collaboration in nursing training, medical education, research and in other aspects. He said this while meeting Vice Chancellor of DUHS in his office on Wednesday morning. Dow medical college’s principal Professor Amjad Siraj Memon, V ice Principal ProfessorShumaila Khalid, Head of Quality Enhancement Cell Dr Sanam Somro, and trade manager Department of International Trade British High Commission Rehan Shahid were also present in the meeting. Professor Muhammad Saeed Quraishy discussed about Pakistan’s Medical Education and general educational situation and he highlighted the services of DUHS. British Deputy High Commissioner showed keen interest in providing training facilities in the field of Nursing. He also said that experts visit in Pakistan will also be appreciated. It was
also agreed in the meeting that for education and training of students and teachers training facilities should be improved in Pakistan instead of sending them to UK. British Deputy High Commissioner said that Overall situation of law and order has been improved in Pakistan especially Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad are safe cities with every
aspect. In UK Pakistan’s image is improving over the past decade and travel advisories are also positive. British citizens are allowed to move everywhere in Pakistan except few places. It will promote bilateral development in the fields of trade, education and others. British Deputy High Commissioner expressed his concerns over the increasing
cases of Covid19 in second wave. He also appreciated the efforts of Pakistan during the first wave and praised it’s role in effectively combating against the deadly virus as compare to its neighboring countries. Professor Muhammad Saeed Quraishy told him about the current wave of Covid 19 and the victims that DUHS and two infectious
diseases hospitals under the supervision of DUHS are working with full potential. In the meeting several other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.Before that, Vice Principal Professor Shumaila Khalid welcomed British Deputy High Commissioner on the Main gate and gave him a bouquet. British Deputy High Commissioner also observe the foundation stone of DUHS According to which Dow medical college was founded on 10 December 1945 by Sir Hugh Dow. He also clicked pictures with it.
